El día de ayer y hoy, 10 y 11 de Septiembre de 2013 se está presentado en el Aula Magna Facultad de Medicina Universidad de Chile (Santiago de Chile) la Primera Conferencia Latinoamericana sobre Trastornos del Espectro Autista (TEA). Contará con la participación de más de una docena de organizaciones de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Canadá y Estados Unidos con el objetivo de posicionar el tema del autismo en sus respectivos países y discutir cómo proporcionar mejores servicios a las personas con autismo y sus familias. También será una oportunidad de conocer las organizaciones e instituciones relacionadas con TEA, e investigaciones que se han realizado en el tema, a través de una exposición de pósters.
Este importante evento ha sido impulsado por Autism Speaks y RedeAmericas (el Centro Regional de Investigación en Salud Mental, financiado por el Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental), quienes coproducirán la Primera Conferencia Latinoamericana sobre Trastornos del Espectro Autista (TEA) en coordinación con la Universidad de Columbia y la Universidad de Chile. Esta es la primera vez en la historia que el autismo es abordado en una conferencia regional en América Latina y sus objetivos son los siguientes:
- Posicionar al autismo en el diálogo nacional de los países participantes
- Posibilitar el desarrollo de líneas de investigación
- Discutir estrategias concretas para mejorar los servicios para personas con autismo en América Latina
- Alentar a los países a firmar acuerdos con organizaciones internacionales
- Involucrar a las organizaciones de padres y contribuir a un mayor desarrollo de estos grupos

Promover iniciativas legislativas en los países participantes que mejoren la calidad de vida de las personas con autismo y sus familias

Sin duda un evento de gran relevancia y que pondrá a América Latina en la línea que millones de familias desean. Con el propósito de visibilizar y dar a conocer el autismo un grupo de oradores expondrán en sus conferencias lo último en investigación sobre autismo, una visión sobre las necesidades de cambio en las políticas públicas y una visión moderna del autismo y su intervención.
Este es sin duda alguna un evento que no se pueden perder.
