Al hablar de Esclerosis Múltiple muy difícilmente podríamos afirmar que hay acciones especificas que beneficien o coadyuven a mejorar las condiciones de vida en general de los pacientes con esta enfermedad, debemos recordar que en cada persona existen manifestaciones únicas y por ello la atención debe tornarse a un ámbito personalizado que permita conocer la problemática, tratamiento, rehabilitación y en resumen la combinación de acciones que puedan inferir directamente en mejorar sus condiciones.
Haciendo referencia directamente a las Políticas Públicas que deben ser generadas para dar atención a quienes viven con Esclerosis Múltiple, es necesario realizar esta reflexión partiendo de dos diferentes escenarios, el primero de ellos exclusivamente desde el tema de la salud pública, en donde necesariamente debe ser garantizado para los pacientes con este padecimiento un diagnostico certero y puntual que permita disminuir los riesgos y recibir la atención necesaria en una etapa inicial, para ello es necesario capacitar desde las diferentes instancias gubernamentales no solo a los médicos especialistas, sino además al personal de primer contacto y ofertar así opciones de tratamiento que se adecuen a sus necesidades específicas.
En los últimos años se han acrecentado de manera importante el número de personas que padecen Esclerosis Múltiple, en el año 2000, fecha en que se fundó la Asociación Zacatecana de Esclerosis Múltiple, había tan solo 20 pacientes registrados. A la fecha se tienen alrededor de 150; lo más lamentable es que esta enfermedad, de ser exclusiva en edades de entre 20 a 40 años; ahora se presenta en menores de edad.
Aquí la importancia de implementar políticas públicas que den atención, desde el ámbito de salud a quienes presentan esta enfermedad, que como ya se dijo antes, deben enfocarse a la detección a tiempo y tratamientos para garantizar una mejora calidad de vida.
Desde el ámbito de la inclusión social, y al ser esta una enfermedad que da origen a diversas discapacidades múltiples, es fundamental apoyar el empleo, la asociación y la incorporación al deporte, la cultura y la recreación, con el fin de garantizar una vida activa y plena, buscando de manera primordial un trato justo, equitativo y digno para este sector de la población.
Si bien, hay pacientes que pueden vivir muchos años sin efectos discapacitantes porque tienen acceso servicios médicos que absorben los tratamientos, -que cabe mencionar son de alrededor de 37 mil 500 pesos mensuales- hay quienes no gozan de este beneficio público, por lo tanto le es muy difícil acceder a los medicamentos y ello ocasiona que la enfermedad avance y genere discapacidades motrices o sensoriales, y con ello rezague su desarrollo personal, profesional y familiar.
En este ámbito pues, y desde la subsecretaría para la Inclusión de las Personas con Discapacidad, estamos siempre en la búsqueda de esos espacios inclusivos, que nos den a quienes ya vivimos con alguna discapacidad, la oportunidad de crecer y desarrollarnos en equidad de condiciones.
Mención especial merece la dignificación y el respeto a los derechos de las personas con Esclerosis Múltiple, como lo merece cualquier otra persona, con alguna otra enfermedad, lo anterior como un compromiso conjunto entre sociedad y gobierno que permita a este grupo prioritario acceder en igualdad de circunstancias a las opciones que desde en su comunidad se ofertan.
El Octavo Congreso Nacional de Esclerosis Múltiple que se avecina, es una oportunidad más que tendremos para no solo conocer avances médicos en la detección y tratamiento de esta enfermedad; es también el espacio oportuno para buscar que en las instituciones de salud del estado, estas políticas públicas de las que hablaba al principio se generen e implementen, como también lo haremos desde el ámbito social, en el ámbito de la inclusión y respeto a los derechos humanos.
