El equipo de la Unidad de Reimplantes del Hospital Universitario La Paz ha salvado la pierna de un paciente tras una lesión que, en el 95% de los casos, hubiera acabado en amputación. Ahora, lo único que le interesa a Salvador Rodríguez, el protagonista de esta historia, es volver a andar
Salvador Rodríguez sufrió un accidente agrícola el pasado 22 de junio en Batres, al sur de la Comunidad de Madrid.
César Casado Sánchez, médico del Servicio de Cirugía Plástica, ha explicado hoy en rueda de prensa que las piernas del paciente quedaron atrapadas en las cuchillas de una moto azada cuando removía la tierra.
El accidente
Los primeros en llegar al lugar del accidente fueron los profesionales del Servicio de Urgencia Médica de Madrid (SUMMA 112) y tres dotaciones del Cuerpo de Bomberos, que separaron al paciente de la máquina a la que había quedado enganchado, siguiendo un riguroso protocolo.
Rodríguez ha relatado a los medios de comunicación esos difíciles momentos: “Estaba trabajando y, cuando me quise dar cuenta, vi que se me enganchaban las piernas. Como pude, me levanté para cortar el paso del combustible, me agarré a una valla y pedí ayuda”.
“Lo último que recuerdo es que oí decir que ya estaban ahí los bomberos y luego el helicóptero”, ha añadido.
Para el equipo médico, una de las claves del éxito de esta operación estuvo en la eficacia del traslado. “El paciente llegó al hospital en unas condiciones óptimas de estado general, traído por los servicios de emergencia, y fue separado de la máquina gracias a una actividad meritoria de los bomberos”, ha explicado el doctor Casado Sánchez.
Carlos Mendoza, responsable del Centro de Coordinación del SUMMA 112, ha expresado su satisfacción con el protocolo de emergencias que siguieron para lograr el complejo traslado “en las mejores condiciones posibles” y ha agradecido su trabajo a los profesionales que intervinieron.
Sebastián Mora, del Parque de Bomberos, ha precisado que, rumbo al accidente, el equipo se concentró en trazar un plan de acción con la información que habían recibido vía telefónica.
Lo más difícil, según Mora, fue desmontar la máquina “por la posición de la víctima” y porque “estaba anclada al suelo”, por lo que tuvieron que cortarla para que entrara en el helicóptero que había sido habilitado para el traslado al hospital.
La cirugía
Los bomberos separaron las aspas de la zona principal de la moto azada. El paciente ingresó al centro hospitalario con partes de la máquina incrustadas y “la pierna izquierda catastrófica, sin vascularización, y la pierna derecha con fractura de tibia y peroné”.
La intervención de Salvador Rodríguez, que duró cuatro horas, comenzó con el procedimiento para retirar las cuchillas. Luego, los equipos de Cirugía Plástica y Traumatología trataron las fracturas e iniciaron la revascularización, así como la reconstrucción de músculos, tendones, nervios y piel.
El cirujano Casado Sánchez ha resaltado que “un elemento que marcó la intervención fue la preservación del nervio tibial, que da sensibilidad a la planta del pie”, lo que condiciona que el paciente recupere la motricidad y que su pierna vuelva a ser “plenamente funcional”.
También ha afirmado que la pierna de Salvador Rodríguez tenía “un daño vascular en distintos niveles”, por lo cual decidieron “reparar esas estructuras vasculares tomando vasos sanos de la otra pierna” para asegurar la viabilidad del procedimiento.
El pronóstico
“El verdadero protagonista de esta historia es Salvador, un hombre extraordinario, que se ha tomado todo con mucha filosofía y ha colaborado perfectamente en el proceso y la rehabilitación, lo cual es clave en estas cirugías”, ha manifestado el doctor Casado Sánchez, quien también le pronosticó estupendos resultados.
“Yo estoy de maravilla”, ha dicho sonriente Salvador Rodríguez y ha agregado que no le preocupa saber cuándo podrá volver a andar porque “todo llega” y “necesita un proceso”.
Rodríguez relató los minutos tras la operación: “cuando me desperté, lo primero que hice fue buscarme las piernas, intentar notarlas, cuando vi que las tenía ahí, pensé que iba a ser el mismo”.
El especialista ha informado que el paciente “muy posiblemente va a precisar otra intervención quirúrgica” para que pueda caminar de nuevo con normalidad.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.
