El proyecto, desarrollado por CODESPA y Proenovis en Comayagua y La Paz, contribuye a la inserción laboral de personas ciegas. La iniciativa, que consiste en “llevar el trabajo” a las zonas rurales, ya beneficia a 137 discapacitados. Entre los beneficios generados destacan su inclusión social, el aumento de su calidad de vida y la de sus familias, y la mejora en su autoestima personal.
En Honduras, alrededor de 700.000 personas sufren algún grado de discapacidad; el 11% de la población nacional, y más de la mitad de estas personas con discapacidad, se encuentran en zonas rurales. La discapacidad y el contexto de pobreza en el que viven, constituyen una conjunción de factores que se transforman en una barrera para la inserción laboral y social de las personas. En muchas ocasiones, la discapacidad dificulta aun más el acceso a un empleo y el hecho de que la población con discapacidad visual resida en entornos rurales, complica más aún sus posibilidades de generación de ingresos y se fomenta su aislamiento. Con el objetivo de ofrecer una oportunidad a las personas ciegas, CODESPA y Proenovis han desarrollado un proyecto en la zona de Comayagua. Este proyecto, financiado por el AECID y Fundación ONCE América Latina, destaca por su innovación en cuanto al trabajo con microempresarios con discapacidad de tipo visual en el ámbito de la cooperación al desarrollo. Entre las acciones impulsadas dentro del proyecto destaca la extensión del negocio de engorde de cerdos entre personas ciegas del ámbito rural. El éxito de la iniciativa consiste en “llevar el trabajo” a las zonas rurales, evitando así el desplazamiento de la población discapacitada a los centros urbanos para acceder a un empleo. Así, el programa de extensión rural supera la limitación de distancia y movilidad para poder ofrecer una alternativa de generación de ingresos digna a población con discapacidad. Esto ha permitido que 137 personas discapacitadas ya tengan la oportunidad de generar ingresos a sus propios hogares, facilitando la inclusión de personas que difícilmente pueden desplazarse para encontrar empleo. El proyecto también ha tenido un componente educativo y formativo ya que se desarrollan las capacidades de estas personas, tratando temas como las relaciones interpersonales y la autoestima de forma individual y familiar. Se trata de una respuesta concreta e integral de inclusión, incidiendo en su independencia económica, su consideración social así como la mejora de su autoestima y el aumento de la confianza de sus familias en ellos.
